In the beautiful little town of Monforte where some of the biggest and greatest Barolos come from, a stop at Trattoria della Posta is a MUST! Practically a historical landmark, the Massolino family has been serving food to local and tourists for more than 130 years! You can really feel these deep roots in the cuisine and the classic decor yet the feel is casual with a modern twist.

Claudio and I finally had a Sunday to spend time together and do what we do best, explore Langhe! So we decided to treat ourselves to a nice lunch at La Posta for our 4th anniversary. I guess this could even be considered research for my job which means “studying” can actually be enjoyable!
Claudio being masked by the enormous wine list!
What struck me the most was the owners’ “simpatia“and kindness and second of all, the HUGE wine list that I could barely hold up! Although I know I shouldn’t drink while being pregnant, I couldn’t resist such a temptation with such an amazing carta dei vini. I chose a refreshing sparkling glass of Valentino “Riserva Elena” by Podere Rocche dei Manzoni made right down the road.
But let’s get to the food so here is a little taste of what we ate:
Homemade gnocchi with monkfish sauce, Taggiasca olives and sage
Green homemade ravioli filled with goat cheese with a salsiccia di Bra and leek ragu
Roasted onion stuffed with Murazzano sheep’s milk cheese and salsiccia di Bra
Grilled octopus salad with greens and flowers
Pear and berry sorbet
To be honest, this was one of those legendary restaurants in Langhe that I decided to go into with low expectations. Often you hear so much hype about places and then feel utterly disappointed. But this ambience, this kindness, this tradition and attention to detail really impressed me and reminded me of why I do food and wine tours and love living in the area!
